I’ve had the pleasure of teaching an animation course through Braidwood Creative, and two of my children have also attended various classes over the past few years. The impact it’s had on them, creatively, socially and personally has been enormous.

Braidwood Creative provides something incredibly valuable for our community: a place where kids and adults can learn new skills, build confidence, collaborate and feel inspired. The enthusiasm my children have for the classes says everything. Programs like this absolutely deserve ongoing support and funding.

It has given them access to some excellent creative workshops run by skilled mentors, as well as equipment and experiences that would otherwise be out of reach for us geographically and financially.

The ChewBACA project is amazing! Beyond making podcasts, it’s all about nurturing creativity and community. My son is loving the opportunities he’s had so far; learning from local skilled workshop leaders and youth mentors, developing his ideas with all the encouragement, having access to industry standard equipment- and all within Braidwood! The equipment and software has enabled my son to learn recording, animation and editing techniques for both podcasting and video production.

Prior to this project, I had looked into my son attending some creative workshops in animation and radio production and found nothing in Canberra. We would have to have travelled to Sydney to attend a weekend workshop or school holiday program in either of these fields and financially it was just not possible for us to attend. Not only does the ChewBACA project allow for hands-on learning in these areas, it is wonderful to deep dive into a project for a year. It has sparked further interest in animation techniques and at the conclusion of the project, he will have a portfolio of work and new skills.

TheChewBACA project is a great example of how spending time working together on a project nurtures the community. It’s not just about children learning how to do new things that interest them, it brings children together and enables them to learn from and be supported by adults in the local community.

I’ve been really pleased to be a part of ChewBACA as a facilitator. It’s a great project, it’s wonderful it’s Braidwood based and focused and I have loved watching the young people really engage with the material in their writing and imagining. I can’t think of anything I’ve been involved in that has been similar in terms of the variety of modes of expression on offer and the enthusiasm generated.
